Start with their style, then choose the stone
Look at a few pieces they already wear. Do they prefer warm or cool colors, smooth curves or defined corners, a small pendant or a statement piece? Those observations can be more useful than choosing a stone by its name alone.
You can start with a birthstone if that connection matters to them, but you do not need to limit the gift to one material. A favorite green, a familiar landscape in picture jasper, or a distinctive pattern can make the choice personal. Each stone guide explains the material’s appearance, origins, and traditional symbolism.
Choose how much of the design to make your own
In the custom designer, choose the material, then a preset shape and size. An oval gives a pattern room to flow; a rectangle emphasizes its lines. You can draw an outline or select the designer’s choice of freeform shape. Custom outlines are reviewed for feasibility before cutting.
The preview helps compare proportions and finishes. The material photo is an example, so the stone you receive will have its own color and pattern. If the exact pattern matters most, browse the finished shop instead: its listing photos show the individual cabochon you are buying.
Match the finish to what they already own
A loose cabochon suits someone who makes jewelry or collects polished stones. A pendant with a bail is useful when they have a favorite chain. For a complete necklace, add an 18-inch cable chain and choose its metal and thickness.
The bails attach with epoxy and are offered in solid .925 sterling silver or 18kt gold plated. Chain choices are solid .925 sterling silver, 18kt gold plated over .925 sterling silver, and solid 14kt gold. Both gold chain choices use an 18kt gold plated bail. The designer shows the cost of each choice.
Leave time for the making
Allow 21 days to prepare and ship, plus delivery time. If you are shopping well ahead, a gift reminder can help you return before the birthday; the reminder is scheduled six weeks before the occasion you enter.
Custom designs include progress photos as the stone takes shape. An optional making-of video is available in the final design step. These are a way to share how their piece was made, as well as the finished gift.
